Here is an interesting video on the young conducting sensation Gustavo Dudamel on 60 Minutes.  Maestro Dudamel has been taking the classical music scene by storm in recent years.  At only 27 years of age, he been appointed music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic which will effectively start in the 2009-2010 season .  Before his appointment in L.A., many American orchestras were going after him including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.  He is currently Principal Conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and is in his ninth year as Music Director of the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra in Venezuela.  He has many debuts in the 2007-2008 season including the Vienna Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Berlin Philharmonic and the Berlin Stattsoper.

He’s really amazing.

On Saturday, Public Ad Campaign’s Jordan Seiler organized a massive ad space takeover in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The target: NPA’s illegal outdoor billboards. They’re the main company that wheatpastes up promotional posters for various brands or what’s known in the industry as wild postings. According to Seiler, the Department of Buildings informed him that many of the locations operated by the outdoor advertising outfit are unlawful and although there’s occasional arrests, the city mostly ignores the law breaking executions. So starting around 11AM, a total of 26 whitewashers (including this very editor, shout out to Team 10: JustSeeds & AnerA), were broken into groups and provided with paint, orange worker vests, and maps. In total we covered 120 of the 132 locations planned in Chelsea, West Village, Chinatown, East Village, Lower East Side, and Williamsburg.

Rival Groups Seek ‘.Gay’ Internet Suffix – Bits Blog – NYTimes.com

October 23, 2009, 9:09 am Rival Groups Seek ‘.Gay’ Internet SuffixBy Jennifer 8. LeeFrom our colleagues at the City Room blog:Should there be a .gay Internet suffix? Two for-profit groups are pushing for one. The Dot Gay Alliance dotgay.org, out of New York City, is being led by a longtime gay activist. And dotGay dotgay.com is being spearheaded by a heterosexual German man in Riga, Latvia, who has incorporated a company in San Francisco. In other words, there could be hotels.gay, provincetown.gay, match.gay and pride.gay Web sites. Question: What would the popular Web site gay.com have as its .gay counterpart? Gay.gay? Gaydotcom.gay? Or does it not get a .gay counterpart? While both groups have left open the possibility of cooperating, they haven’t yet joined forces. Both groups say they plan on starting the application process with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, or Icann, to create top-level domains, akin to .com, .edu, .org and .net. CCTV debunks hysterical blogger who claimed the TSA ‘took’ her sonHorror stories about airport security are so commonplace they’re not even worth sharing. Everyone’s met an angry TSA agent who snarls when she unearths a forgotten five-ounce bottle of saline solution from deep within your carry-on. But even when they’re complete cocksuckers, the screeners are just doing their jobs. The absurd restrictions aren’t of their design.Sometimes, though, the screeners go too far. At least according to this woman, whose son’s pacifier prompted an additional patdown: My worst nightmare took place yesterday. Worse than events that have taken place and that I have survived in my short 28 years of living. Worse than my wildest of dreams could conjure. My son was taken from me. Taken. My son was taken from me by the TSA agents at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson airport yesterday. [emphasis HERS!]

Does it ever Stop Making Sense?

Stop Making Sense

Talking Heads was already a post-punk powerhouse before Jonathan Demme’s fabled 1984 concert film Stop Making Sense helped make the band a pop-culture legend. Now the movie can be experienced with heightened visual clarity and auditory bliss, thanks to Tuesday’s release of the film’s 25th-anniversary edition on Blu-ray.

That timely release will give Talking Heads loyalists and latecomers alike a chance to answer a question that’s been burning down the house: Is Stop Making Sense the greatest concert film ever?
